"Save a Place for Kids" is a fundraiser to support a 17 year old program dedicated to providing safety, support, and protection for children and families affected by domestic violence. Donations support a place where children have the opportunity to create memories and form bonds with their parents.
My name is Phil Beadle, and I am the Program Coordinator for The Duluth Family Visitation Center. There is no easy way to say this, so the best I can do is just to put it all out on the table. For nearly eight years, I've worked at the Duluth Family Visitation Center in Duluth helping childern who have been affected by violence in the home. In addition to serving approximately 150 families and 300 children each year, we have been responsible for advancing the field of supervised visitation internationally through the trainings and materials we've developed.
We were notified in August that due to funding cuts, we are in danger of having to close permanently on December 31, 2006. For nearly 20 years, the staff of the Visitation Center has been on the front line. We offer people who are unable to safely care for their children at home a place to spend time together and create the type of positive memories that bond children and parents. Closing would be devastating to our community, yet we cannot secure enough money locally in the limited time we have to keep us going.
It's not easy to ask people we've never met for help, but we are running out of options. We need a miracle.
Please know that your gift is being used to fund a program whose mission is to give children who have witnessed more than anyone should ever have to witness an opportunity to heal and to learn nonviolent alternatives. You can donate here on our website (link to donation page). We can never properly thank you for helping us to navigate this difficult time, but we will be forever grateful.
Thank you,
Phil Beadle
