August 13-15, 2008 (Duluth, MN)
October 20-22, 2008 (Duluth, MN)
November 19-21, 2008 (Indianapolis, IN)

A three-day training for men's nonviolence class facilitators. This training will present a theoretical framework for working with men who batter and demonstrate how to facilitate structured, interactive nonviolence classes using the curriculum Creating a Process of Change for Men Who Batter. It will also explore the philosophy of the curriculum and how an offender program fits within an interagency community response to domestic violence.

The training is interactive, process-oriented, and includes:

  • building relationships with the courts, victim advocates, and battered women
  • developing protocol on re-offenses
  • prioritizing victim safety and holding offenders accountable
  • the art of dialogue in a men's class
  • using control logs, action plans, exercises, and videos
  • avoiding collusion
  • using role plays to teach non-controlling behaviors
  • setting goals with participants for being nonabusive.

Training materials include articles, resources on Freire's liberation education, sample forms, and curriculum supplements. The curriculum package can be purchased following the training, and includes the facilitator handbook, four videos (two are updated), and the Power & Control and Equality Wheel posters. (English or Spanish)

The Duluth trainings are approved by the MN Social Work Board for Continuing Education Hours (CEHs). Certificates of completion will be available when you complete the training.
